Evaluation Results: Bill, a third generation owner of this Edmonton based bike store, was looking to improve his sales. The evaluation showed that the existing layout was not using the business's anchor product to generate traffic flow throughout the space.

Development Planning Changes: The store was odd shaped and had a small second level. The layout was changed to draw consumers to the back of the store for the anchor products which was the large selection of bikes. Relocated all the high margin impulse items into the traffic pattern forcing the shopper to pass by them on the way to the bikes. Redesigned the customer service center around what was determined a dead corner, maximizing the complete store space.

Result Achieved: A 20 to 30% increase in sales on high margin bike accessories.

Evaluation Results: Bruce, purchased this store in the a small town of Jasper within the Rocky Mountains of Alberta. Evaluation showed an inconsistent traffic flow throughout his store. The layout of the fixtures and type of fixtures were not lending themselves to easy shopping.

Development Planning Changes: Made the product more visible by changing the fixtures and for convenience adding a dressing room. Created store sections using high wood fixtures, complementary to existing decor, that butt up against the wall shelving.  This created alcoves for the various product types and the modular fixtures allowed more flexibility for merchandising by using shelving, hang rail for clothing or hooks for smaller products.

Result Achieved:
Generated traffic into the store and increased sales by 3% while other stores in this tourist town lost sales on average of 10 to 12% during this period. "Customers actually started trying clothes on while on the floor and using the dressing room", states Bruce.

Development Planning Changes: Took advantage of high ceilings for off the wall display and created departments within departments opening the store visually. Changed fixtures to open traffic lanes, diversify merchandising of product and created more display space. Created a completely different look and feel with new wall colors, displays and customer service counters.

Result Achieved:
Generated a comfortable traffic flow into the store and increased sales.
